Bratwurst with onion sauce

Ingredients:

4 sausages
4 large onions, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
250 ml beef stock
100 ml dry white wine
Salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon chopped parsley (optional)

Preparation:

1. Fry the sausages in a pan over medium heat until golden brown on all sides. This usually takes about 10-15 minutes. Once the sausages are cooked through, remove from the pan and keep warm.

2. In the same pan, melt the butter and add the thinly sliced onions. Fry the onions, stirring occasionally, until they are soft and golden brown, which should take about 15-20 minutes.

3. Once the onions are caramelized, sprinkle the flour over them and stir well to get an even mixture. Let the flour sauté for about a minute to remove the raw taste.

4. Gradually add the beef stock and dry white wine to the onion mixture, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Reduce the heat and simmer the sauce until it has thickened slightly.

5. Season with salt, pepper and sugar and simmer the sauce for another 5-10 minutes to blend the flavors.

6. Put the fried sausages back into the pan and heat them in the onion sauce so that they can absorb the flavor of the sauce.

7. To serve, arrange the sausages on a plate and pour the onion sauce generously over them. Sprinkle with chopped parsley, if desired, to add a fresh flavor to the dish.
