Why Americans and Europeans Don’t Eat Buckwheat. When We Find Out the Reason, It’s Awkward

In our country, buckwheat is one of the most popular food products. Even our well-being can be determined by the cost of buckwheat and its availability in stores.

Buckwheat can be used to make side dishes, independent dishes and soups. It can be eaten during Lent if it is cooked without animal products. There are even buckwheat cutlets, and it also serves as a filling for pies and dumplings. I have also heard rumors that jelly is made from buckwheat.

But such love for buckwheat is not shared with us by residents of Western countries, that is, Americans and Europeans. Abroad, buckwheat is treated with disdain and we, chewing this delicacy, are looked at with bewilderment and even some contempt.

So let’s figure out the reason for this attitude towards buckwheat in the West.

Why is buckwheat called buckwheat?

According to legend, buckwheat was brought to our region by Greek monks who arrived with missionary purposes. They taught our peasants how to grow this miracle and cook it properly. And the name buckwheat is explained by the fact that its root is “grech”, and this indicates the product’s kinship with Greece.

Why do only our people eat buckwheat?

In some post-Soviet countries they also love to eat buckwheat.

But residents of Western countries refuse to eat buckwheat for a simple and banal reason. In Europe and America, buckwheat has always been a feed for livestock, as it is unpretentious and grows well.

In Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium and Germany, buckwheat was considered an “Arab” plant and was often called “pagan” grain. All Europeans and Americans are sure that buckwheat is food only for animals. Therefore, they are very surprised that we eat buckwheat with pleasure.

In addition, in the West, buckwheat is considered tasteless and bitter. But we know that this is not true. Europeans and Americans simply do not know how to cook buckwheat properly.

Properly prepared buckwheat will not only have an excellent taste, but also contain a huge amount of useful microelements and properties.

Buckwheat improves the hormonal balance of the body, normalizes blood pressure, reduces blood sugar levels, increases hemoglobin, strengthens the immune system, and also removes cholesterol and toxins from the body.

That’s why every nutritionist will tell you that buckwheat should definitely be in your diet.

No need to look at the people of Western countries, eat as much buckwheat as you want!
